1999 : YANG Ya memorial fund XueTian memorial fund 772 fund

Fund Guideline

875 alumni fund (875校友基金) serves as a special fund in the University of Science and Technology of China Alumni Foundation (USTCAF), and is subject to the general rule and guideline of USTCAF. The investment scheme will be the same with the USTCAF general fund.

Any participant in the 875 alumni fund has the right to propose a change to the existing rules, awarding criteria and other issues. But he/she must have at least two supporters before the change goes to a full vote. The change will take effect when and only when two-third of fund participants approve it.

This fund is initiated primarily out of good will, from which XueTian Memorial Scholarship (学田纪念助学金) will be awarded to department 5 students. Rather than a substitution, this scholarship serves as a complement to the USTCAF Good-will scholarship. Therefore, the Goodwill Scholarship shall be equally awarded to department 5 students and shall not be cut down due to the existence of this Scholarship.

This scholarship is based on the mutual trust between the applicants, the department 5 administration, and the fund participants. Both department 5 and the fund participants reserve the right to take back the award from the applicant once any fraud is found.

Award Criteria (see change at 4/2004 below)

An annual amount of $1200 will be awarded to department 5 students from this fund. After year 2000, the spending amount can be increased if the total fund balance is ten times more than the proposed spending, and it is subject to the ruling of the above fund guideline. This scholarship will be used to improve the living conditions of most needy ones from department 5. In order to qualify for this scholarship, the most needy students must maintain a minimum academic standing. This academic requirement is temporarily set to be 70/100 score based on the previous year's exam. For freshmen, the score of 70/100 will be based on the national entrance exam. This scholarship will be given to six students each year in the amount of $200 per student. At least two freshmen shall be selected and the rest shall be selected from grades one to four based on the above criteria. In the case where two applicants are of similar financial and academic conditions, preference shall be given to the female student.

Revision made at 4/2004

Removing the sentence: "At least two freshmen shall be selected and the rest shall be selected from grades one to four based on the above criteria." and replace this with the following: "Starting Year 2004, the awards will transition to provide an increased amount of $300 for the new students, and keep the existing awards the same until their graduation. For the Year 2007 and after, the 875 fund will provide four awards, one per grade, at the amount of 4x$300 per year."

The 875 fund will only increase the award amounts for new awardees to $300 per year, and for the one student of class 2001 and two students of class 2003, we keep $200 each year until their graduation. For class 2004, 2005, and 2006, we will give $300 each. This agrees well with your new "adpotion" principle of GW scholarship as well.

The cash outflow for 875 fund are as following:

 2004 2005 2006 2007 and afterward
 $900 $1000 $1300 $1200 $1200
After the transition period, starting year 2007, we will have 4 awards per year, each award of $300 for each grade.
