2005 Board Election: Candidates' bio & statement Vote ballot Voters Results(real time)
Email sent by ZHANG Shangyou too all AF members:

Dear LIU Dongzi,

Thank you for making donations to USTCAF and being an AF member.
This email is sent to you and all other AF members.

A. It is the time to elect 2005 Board. Alumni Foundation is establised
for 10 years, on June 20, 2005. The growth rate should be much
faster. Anyway, AF needs your contribution. Please join 2005
board!!! For more information, please read the call letter from
   2004 Board attached below.

Please send me a 10-line bio and campaign statement, to
become a candidate. For sample statements, take a look at
   http://ustcaf.org/2004/elec.html

If you are not ready to be on the Board, you can become a
Board-Member-elect. Which means you can read all board email,
make comments etc, for a year, and become a Board member
next year if you decide to be so then.

AF bylaws require no less than 10, but no more than 20 board
members each term. All candidates in the past were elected,
each year. However, in recent years, it is difficult to find
10 candidates! Please come to the board, and do as much as
your time allows to do on the 2005 board.

B. A USTC Delegation led by the Party Secretary GUO Chuanjie will
visit SF&LA, Chicago, Boston, NYC, between 2/15/2005 and
2/25/2005. In addition to seeing alumni, the delegation
would like to present USTC to overseas Chinese for faculty
recruitment. We need to work on the preparation, find
volunteers to help and people who are interested in the info.

GUO Chunjie is also the Party Secretary of Chinese Acadmy of
Science. I think, after so many years, he is the first one
coming to USTC with central government connections! He could
be the one to change the fate of USTC completely, just a
personal opinion. For example, Anhui and Hefei local
government does not pay attention and respect to USTC at all,
at least, not as it used to be. But it seems GUO made the
local governemnt do now the things that they promised many years
ago! You see, anywhere, people on power or people having
connections to the powerful people, make big differences.

As alumni, we should make him feel that we care USTC, we
care what he will do for USTC!!! If you live close to the
4 areas listed above, please email John Rongxiang Hu

   johnrhu@yahoo.com

and me, your name, class, email address, and phones. Please
also email us the same information of your
classmates in the above four areas. We will build up some
email lists to better welcome the delegation.

Happy Chinese New Year!

ZHANG Shangyou, 771
