Some
meaningful suggestions from voters
in the 2006 election ( excluded
those simply saying "Good Job" ).

Could we build a network of USTCers at USA to help
each other and then
for all of us to find a job easier?

Congratulations to AF for passing the half million
milestone but I
think AF can be more aggresive (especially towards the
many wealthy
alumni). Some tatics from US schools can be learned.
For example, organize
more self-sponsored alumni activities that earn some
extra for AF; have
someone dedicated to making phone calls to alumni, ask
for donation or
just to keep in touch. In case of my US school they
have underduates do
this like an internship job. It would be fun to hear
from alumni and as
for donation sometimes you might catch a big fish!
Can we try to change the admissions policy of USTC to
take a similar
approach as universities in USA, i.e., a student gets
some advantage if
he/she has a relative who attended USTC before and/or
made donation to
USTC. I think that policy will help USTC and make it a
great school like
Princeton.

We need more poeple, I am curious that there are no
candidates from
department 6? Geographically, we shall run some
campaign in each area

Georgia/Houston
Talked to Dongzi over the phone on these. 1. USTCAF
needs a clearer and
grander vision to grow big. Strong leadership at the
board is critical.
2. USTCAF's board need to think what projects will
generate the
greatest IMPACT. The money will flow in to support
these projects. 3. USTC's
leaders should have a grander vision for the
University. To compete with
the likes of MIT/CalTech or to fade away silently? If
the goal is to
compete with MIT/CalTech, we need to look at what
these schools are doing
and what led to their successes. USTC is not doing
even close. - Xu,

Please make the election frequency from every year to
at least every
other year so that people can really make things
happen and follow
through.

Try to raise fund from corporations in addition to
individuals.

Thank you for all the candidates for their warm
hearts. A few days ago,
I read a news about a book showing the new Chinese
colleage ranking and
guides for colleage entrance examination students. I
was astonished
that USTC fell far behind in almost all aspects. I am
wondering if somehow
USTCAF can initiate some kind of
discussion/investigation to (1)
self-reflect what is the current situation of USTC and
why; and (2) what we,
including the alumini and the current USTC
officials/teachers/students,
can possibly do to make a difference, in the short
term and in a long
run. In fact I am not sure about the answers to either
of the questions.
Hopefully other USTCers know better. At least it is a
chance to make
everyone concerning about the future of USTC think. In
my imagination, a
final report like the analysis of post-Katrina tragedy
in many of the
well-known magzines will serve the community good. My
2 cents. :-)
All are strong candidates, but I prefer Ni Hong to
lead because he
might have more resources to raise money for USTCAF.

For USTCAF information: Ms. Ma, Dongmin was in 1985
year Gifted Class
(she eventually graduated from USTC in 1990 from the
8th Dept). She is
famous now because her husband is the Chairman (or
CEO) or BaiDu.com,
the famous Chinese search engine. Can somebody from
USTCAF or 8th dept
contact her for a donation. Or better yet, aks her to
set up a Ma Dongmin
Foundation (she can donate at least US$1 million or
more). Act quick,
act now!
