    This is the first time that I am seeking the re-election. 2008 is my first year in USTC-AFGB.

    My effort was focused on fundraising, broadcast AF and pushing a united USTC alumni organization. And currently I am a member of a sub-committee in USTCAF, which will work mainly with USTCIF for a more united alumni foundation. There are a lot more works in front of us. I hope I still can get the chance to serve our alumni community.

    2008- now, Research Associate, MKP Capital Management LLC

    I joined the AFGB since 2005 and served as the Vice Chair of GB in 2006. I was a board member of AFGB in the past 4 years.

    2008 was definitely memorable for most of us. We had been so emotional for so many things, from the riot in Tibet, the devastating earthquake in SiChuan to the excitement in Beijing Olympic, the happy reunion in USTC. Of course, everyone of us had experienced the financial tsunami that profoundly changed the world and our daily life. For AF, 2008 saw the continous and steady growth in donation despite the world wide recession. We had argued, resolved and moved on from many hot issues regarding the direction of AF as an organization. Hopefully, we will unite more closely in the coming year and try our best to bring AF to the next level. As a humbled supporter, I would like to commit another year to help on this noble cause and serve the USTCers around the globe.

  13. Zhi-Jun Ni 851 ni1999-at-hotmail.com

    I proudly strived to accomplish my undergraduate education in pure mathematics at USTC during 1985-1990, also a critical time for my emotional and spiritual growth. I managed to become a Ph. D. candidate in Number Theory at Ohio State University. Less a dissertation, I graduated with a Master degree in 1997. I had since worked for about a dozen US companies of start-up nature, pursuing my wealth dream. For last a few years, I have been teaching Mathematics to college students at Los Angeles area, including at California State University.

    "Legend that sustains, passion that thrives, community that bonds, platform that accommodates -- so much USTCAF has been.

    Now, against the backdrop of a raging financial crisis and woeful economic recession (which, truth be told, affects us all), we may naturally ponder over the following question: What results will AF be able to deliver in 2009?

    Option #1: Automatically go down a gear to settle in the "new reality" before conditions get better;
    Option #2: Re-activate recent years' strong moving-forward momentum by rallying the spirit of Alma-mater loving and giving from thousands of members in our great alumni community;
    Having served on the 2007, 2008 AFGB, I'm a believer of the 2nd option, and I'm currently seeking a 3rd term. Being a passionate and hopefully skilled communicator at large, I believe my contribution hasn't run out of steam :) It's a privilege to run a campaign, it's an honor to be endorsed by you, it's a great joy to join the unrelenting efforts from talented men and women on the board, and, it's an ultimate reward to work with and serve our alumni community on a common purpose.

    The challenge before us is real, the road ahead is not a straight one, but know this, dear fellow alumni -- Together in unity, we can make a difference, we can play a vital role in building the future USTC. Thank you for your vote and trust."

    I was on the USTCAF board last year. It was a truly humbling experience. Many passionate alumni I met through the year convinced me that it is a worthy cause to spend time on. We made concrete progress towards a united alumni foundation but left a number of great ideas unfinished. If elected to USTCAF board, I'd like to continue push for the following initiatives:

    1. Work toward one united, single ustc alumni foundation with one objective - to help ustc to be the first class university that provides first class education in China. The other things will take care themselves.

    2. Strategically use ustc alumi foundation's fund for the biggest impact. Including promoting keda's public reputation, sponsoring key positions (professorship, PR role etc)in keda. I believe this will help the fund raising efforts for the alumni foundation.

    3. Revise USTCAF by-laws to make it a more effective organization in the areas of decison making and continuity.

    1989 - 1991: MSEE, Univ. of Hawaii
    1985 - 1989: USTC

    Since the very early days of the AF, I've been a strong believer of its mission and charter. As such, I served a number of GB terms in in our early years, contributed the first corporate matching fund in 1998 (which approximately equaled our fund size at the time), set up the AF resolution process and wrote the first couple of resolutions myself. I had also been providing technical infrastructure for various AF related web site and other activities.

    I came back to serve in GB'2008 and believe that I made a good deal of contribution maintaining the proud tradition of our organization, and especially the integrity and ethics of the GB when we were faced with difficult decisions. Sometimes I had to take unpopular positions, but I believed such is the price of achieving our long term viability and my efforts were worthwhile. I would appreciate an opportunity to serve again in GB'2009, as well as your continued support.

    我毕业仅一年多,我只对USTCAF做过区区几十美元的捐赠。作为年轻校友, 我们固然缺少经验,但不缺活力与激情,我期望参选USTCAF理事会,为USTCAF和 母校贡献心力,恳请支持鼓励!

    作为793-12/86(研)未来化学家基金(CHEM)的发起者之一,本人有幸经历了一段“恰同学少年”的激情在毕业二十年后的拓展。尤其是继几位同学之后,负责未来化学家基金的组织与联络,在与同学们,与化学院领导老师和获奖学生,以及与校友基金总会的接触之中,那一次次的感动告诉我自己,不管我们每个人有着怎样不同的人生经历和目标,科大,从我们踏进校园的那天起,就像一枚音符,深深地埋进我们每个人的心底;不论何时何地,只要有人轻轻奏响,每颗心都会感到共鸣的震撼。因为我们是科大人。

    今年是科大校友基金的丰收年,也是我们子基金4 年全程资助的化学院2005级的4位学生即将毕业的一年。这是多么了不起的成就!这是同学们多年来一点一滴不懈努力的结果。看着三年前和那4位年轻人的合影,想着他们一晃也将像我们当年一样从科大毕业开始自己的人生。激动之余,还是咱们校友基金的那句口号,

    Together we can make difference!

    千里之行始于足下,万丈高抬起于垒土。和校友基金一起走过了几年只管低头耕耘的昨天,在欣慰今天的收获的同时,本人有志成为中国科学技术大学校友基金会理事会的成员,更多更好地为同学校友和母校服务,为我们共同的明天献一份绵薄之力,在此,恳请大家的信任和选举。谢谢!
